Admission Policy Guidelines

Specific Criteria used for student selection during admission:

  • Age criteria as per KHDA guidelines (as mentioned above)
  • Admission is based on first-come-first-served. Priority admission is offered to siblings of all students, including the Students of Determination.
  • Minimum 40% score in interactive and written assessments of children

Procedure and Criteria for Student of Determination:

  • Initial Inquiry and Application: Parents of Students of Determination (SD) typically initiate the admission process by contacting the school to inquire about admission procedures. The admission team conduct the initial entry level assessment with the student. If the case is severe then Inclusion team intervenes to identify and assess the student's needs, strengths and areas of support. The Inclusion team also meets with the parents to discuss about the challenges and ask questions about the support provisions for their child.
  • Documentation and Assessment: Parents may be asked to provide documentation related to the student's diagnosis, educational history, Individualized Education Plan (IEP), or other relevant information. The assessment process may also request collaboration with external professionals, such as educational psychologists or therapists for a formal diagnosis for better understanding of the child’s need.
  • Review of Support Services: The school reviews its existing support services, resources, and accommodations to determine its capacity to meet the needs of the student. This may include assessing the availability of specialized staff (e.g., special education teachers, learning support assistants), assistive technologies and accessibility features within the school environment. Based on the assessment findings and consultation with relevant stakeholders (e.g., parents, external professionals), the school outlines the specific accommodations, modifications and interventions needed to support the student's learning and well-being.
  • Admission Decision: The admission team along with the Inclusions team reviews the student's application, assessment results and the provision of support services to make an admission decision.
  • Communication with Parents: The admission team communicates the admission decision to the parent of the student, providing clear information on the support services and accommodations that will be provided.
  • Transition: Once admission is confirmed, the Inclusion team and teachers facilitate the student's transition process, ensuring a smooth transition in the school.

Support to Diversity:

Support to students with Special Needs is detailed in the Inclusion Policy of the school.

The BRS philosophy of international mindedness welcomes students of all nationalities, cultures, religions and lifestyles. Marking their national days and encouraging students to share their cultural practices greatly supports their wellbeing, sense of belonging and successful integration.

All the students are non-native speakers with varying levels of proficiency in the English language. Support structures consist of the inclusion of English as part of the admission assessment to ensure a minimum basic level , identification of low performers in the admission assessment and provision of special remediation for these students in a focused programme of the school. The ongoing practice of Differentiation in the daily lessons ensures that students achieve increasingly higher levels of proficiency.

Procedurefor Admission:

A child's application is considered eligible based on the age criteria defined by the UAE Federal Law and KHDA guidelines for Indian Curriculum Schools starting their academic session in April. Families are welcome to tour the school campus during operational hours. Every applicant is required to appear for an Interactive or Observation Screening session in kindergarten or a written assessment in higher grades for admission. The observations during the interaction/assessment enable the school to understand the child's academic and overall interests. The school will work towards nurturing them to their next levels. An Admission offer specifying the fee details is emailed to families by the Admissions office. To secure the offered place, families are required to submit the documents at the Admissions office and complete the school fee payment for the initial deposit at the Accounts office within 10 working days of receiving the admission offer (as defined by the KHDA School fee framework).

In the unlikely event of an admission cancellation, the school will process the fee refund based on KHDA fee framework guidelines.
